Do you supply timber for your kits?

We do not provide the timber posts as we offer you the freedom to customise your pergola with the type, size and grade of timber that best fits your space. Timber is more affordable and available at your local hardware and timber warehourse.

We recommend you take your Modaprax pergola bracket with you when purchasing your timber posts to confirm fit.

How large can I build my pergola ?

90x90 Kits:
When using 90x90 posts, we suggest building your pergola up to 2.5m high and span up to 3.5x3.5m.

140x140 Kits:
When using 140x140 posts, we suggest building your pergola up to 3m high and span up to 4x4m.

Note:
We recommend consulting with your engineer on your local building standards and weather conditions.

What is the difference between the 90x90 and 140x140 brackets?

90x90 brackets are designed to fit 90x90mm thick timber.

140x140 brackets are designed to fit 140x140mm thick timber.

90x90mm and 140x140mm are both very common timber sizes and are available in a Dressed All Round (DAR) Finish - thoroughly planed and polished to achieve an extremely smooth surface - which is very customer and builder friendly.

What kind of anchoring hardware should I use for my base brackets?

90x90 Brackets:
The 90x90 base brackets come with 10mm securing holes which allow you to use a variety of screws and bolts (e.g. Ankascrews and Dynabolts). We always recommend checking with your local building guidelines to confirm you are following the correct building codes and what best works for your surface (e.g. concrete, brick or decking).

140x140 Brackets:
The 140x140 base brackets come with 12mm securing holes which allow you to use a variety of screws and bolts (e.g. Ankascrews and Dynabolts). We always recommend checking with your local building guidelines to confirm you are following the correct building codes and what best works for your surface (e.g. concrete, brick or decking).

Can I leave my shade sail up during adverse weather conditions?

We recommend removing your shade sail during adverse weather conditions.

Note:
We recommend consulting with an engineer on your local building standards and weather conditions.

How thick are your brackets?

90x90 brackets:
All 90x90 brackets use 2mm thick steel to fabricate Modaprax pergola brackets. The base bracket uses a 3mm thick steel for the base bracket.

140x140 brackets:

All 140x140 brackets use 3mm thick steel to fabricate our Modaprax pergola brackets.

How many fastening screws do I need to secure the timber when fitted in the bracket?

You only need two of our black coated fastening screws per-side for each arm of your steel brackets which are included with your pergola kits/bracket packs.

Shade sails and their kits also come with shade sail mounts and our black coated screws to secure them to the brackets and timber.

You can also purchase additional black coated securing holes from our website (see accessories).

What coating is used on your brackets?

All our brackets have a protective coating for rust resistence before we apply thick black powder coating for a durable and stylish finish.

We also go through a rigorous process of having our fastening screws heads black coated to match with the timber brackets.

Some of the internal welding points are making it tight for the timber to fit in the bracket, what do we do?

Modaprax pergola brackets are welded from the inside to give them that extra slick exterior finish. The openings are designed for a perfect fit with their matched timber sizes. Timber posts with 'Pencil round edges' should easily clear the welding points. You may also use a rubber hammer gently force the timber in.

If matched timber posts are difficult to clear, an option is to lightly sand the corners where the welding is.
